What Exactly are Specialty Coffees?
Latte: A latte is basically a shot of expresso with steamed milk. The steamed milk gives the drink a creamy consistency and takes away from the taste of the expresso. If you aren't really crazy about the taste of coffee, flavored lattes are available at most coffee shops as well.
Toffee Nut Latte from Starbucks. It is a creamy drink with whipped cream and toffee crunches, which add that special touch. It is sweet and one can barely even taste the expresso.
Cappuccino: A cappuccino is expresso with steamed milk and foamed milk. This is commonly a strong bitter coffee.
Mocha: A mocha is like a latte with cocoa. It is expresso, steamed milk, cocoa and whipped cream. As with lattes, mochas are available in a wide variety of flavors.
A good pick for a flavored mocha is a raspberry mocha from Northern Lights in Scranton, PA. It is sweet, and combines raspberry and chocolate. The coffee taste is not very strong. An added bonus of this drink it that it is very reasonably priced. Varieties Starbucks white chocolate mocha and Cafe Mocha
Iced Coffees: Many coffee shops will offer coffee on ice, which is just what it sounds like. (For example, an iced mocha would be expresso, steamed milk, and cocoa served over ice). This is a good alternative on a hot summer day, or if you're not in the mood for a hot drink.
Frappacinos/ Frio drinks: The difference between iced coffees and frappaccinos is that in a frappaccino, or frio, the ice is blended with the coffee drink. Frappacinos are served by Starbucks and at the campus coffee shop, Java City, these beverages are called frios. These drinks are sweet and a good drink on a hot summer day. They are available in the regular coffee flavor as well as other flavors.
One pick for this type of drink is a Caramel Frappacino from Starbucks. This is a sweet drink consisting of caramel and coffee which is topped with whipped cream and caramel sauce. Another is Caramel Java Frio
